Sutton Set to Host First Comic Con

8th October 2018

Sutton Coldfield is set to host its first Comic Con event on Saturday 27th October ahead of the MCM Birmingham Comic Con at the NEC in November.

The FREE event, organised by YMCA Sutton Coldfield will showcase the comic book and graffiti inspired artwork produced by local Sutton teenagers as part of a new project launched by the charity to tackle the stigma surrounding male mental health.

The Virtually Minded project engages with local young males to provide education and training around mental health, using comic book art and social media campaigns to generate awareness, stamp out the stigma and start the conversation.

The Virtually Minded Comic Con is the first of three annual events to be hosted by the local YMCA and is a real opportunity to raise awareness of mental health in the local community, and in particular amongst young people.

As well as live gaming, a DJ and workshops with an urban artist, there will also be a magician, caricature artist and face painting for younger children. With stalls, food and drink and goodie bags from the Sutton Coldfield Games Workshop store, the event will make a great day out for local families.

The event is open to all families and young people and will be held at North Birmingham Academy secondary school in Perry Common between 12pm and 3pm on Saturday 27th October. Free tickets are available from Eventbrite or from the YMCA website.
