Walmley Community Centre
Planning permission for a state of the art Youth and Community Centre, Non-Residential, have been passed by Birmingham City Council.
The Youth wing will offer fully inclusive activities for all young people, targeting those with disabilities. It will be a place where young people can meet friends and socialise and can when they wish take up opportunities to get involved in exciting recreational activities including drama, dance, music, live theatre, media and arts projects, volunteering, sports and outdoor activities.
The Community wing is intended to accommodate seminars, events, exhibitions, workshops, lectures and open meetings and will be available for a wide variety of clubs, organisations and local residents who are interested in using this wing. The Youth and Community centre will incorporate a multi-purpose Hall for sport, performance events, meetings and community events. A multi-sensory room, prayer / quiet room, training kitchen and café will also be available. Close by and supported by the centre there will be an open air grassed activities pitch available to the public and for possible hockey/football use.
Clive Yates, Chief Executive of Sutton Coldfield YMCA, said that this was "a golden opportunity to provide a high quality centre, where the young people of Sutton Coldfield and Walmley could develop and reach their full potential with full support from a well-established staff team, the needs of those youngsters who are disabled will be specially catered for."
